Whatculture did a video recently about 2nd generation wrestlers who never made it. Apparently the story with Flair is that he never wanted to be a wrestler. The story to get David involved was pitched by Eric Bischoff, and though he went along with it and gave it a shot, David just never really wanted to be a wrestler.

If that's true, then in fairness he didn't do that terribly. Sure, he was pretty awful in the ring, but his psycho stuff at least showed promise when it came to character-work.
