On the surface its a huge blunder, yeah. On the flip side, you don't know whats happening behind the scenes. In a perfect world, they've had talks with a few outlets and this announcement piques the interest of the public. Twitter hashtags and youtube views show better than expected viewership and they leverage that to drive up a price on the league.

I mean, I'm throwing spitballs here but they would have to be total idiots to announce this and not have any idea where they want to show it. Not that the WWE or "Alpha" or whatever is above that I guess but maybe I have more faith in Vince than others.

The anthem thing was just asked a bunch of times by the writers. They want Vince to take a hard stance on it to create controversy - not the kind of controversy you want at this stage if you're Vince. It wasn't something Vince brought up on his own. If you're going to say Vince made that a talking point, than he also made a talking point of trying to sell the XFL to San Diego and Pittsburgh.
