If that's the actual case, then last week's NXT ending was even more dumb.

Cole randomly decided to attack Ciampa after already interfering and attacking Styles. Then the show ended with him staring down Balor on the ramp who interfered earlier to attack Riddle. Rest of UE didn't even bother to show up at all.
