According to the Observer, Regal and WWE had been trying to sign Timothy Thatcher to a deal for the past 5 years and the only reason he finally accepted was due to his plans of wrestling in Japan never coming to fruition.
Also another main reason for WWE's firing of their co-presidents was due to them and Vince bickering over the increasing talent costs in the company. Vince wanted to sign and keep more talent regardless of their use to the company while the co-presidents wanted the signings to stop and rosters trimmed down since there was too much dead weight.
Also both co-presidents saw the Network as WWE's future for financial success while Vince didn't which is why WWE now is considering pulling PPVs out of the service.
In regards to Charlotte's Rumble win, supposedly it was due to WWE feeling bad for her since she was promised to be the main women's star last year and instead those plans had to be scrapped because of Becky's sudden rise.
