Its more so of they only rushed to get a ton of them filed at once in reaction to MLW and Cody/AEW wanting to use old WCW names. Had Vince not had a big hatred of anything WCW related, WWE wouldn't have let those trademarks expire years ago.

Plus WWE already showed even if they don't have the actual trademarks, they don't want anyone else to use them. They tried to bully AEW from not using Bash at the Beach and went after some random company for trying to get the rights for 2 old WCW names.
