I'm sure they had been planning it out since long before everything going on and it was probably meant to be similar to Flair's retirement ceremony where we'd have seen the likes of Batista, Orton, Flair, Cena, 'Taker, Edge, etc. come down to the ring and congratulate Trips while the crowd ate it up. They probably didn't know any good ways to make it feel as special as it deserved to so they just improvised everything except Shawn and Vince actually being there.
