GCW's show was mainly just a special themed show to celebrate the July 4th holiday. Only started doing this with last year's show.
Janela's deal with AEW lets him still do GCW stuff on the side since it also gives him the chance to do some indies scouting for both GCW and AEW. Jungle Boy and Marko Stunt signing AEW deals pretty much came from the exposure Janela gave and the same for PCO's career revival and ROH deal.
