Championsip belts
Do they actually mean anything?
I mean, they are effectively handed to a wrestler by the federation.
Sometimes its for being the best wrestler in the company. The likes of Chris Benoit, Bret Hart, Kurt Angle. Sometimes its for being the most/least popular wrestler in the company, such as the Undertaker, hogan, macho man, rock, austin.....and sometimes, its purely for storyline reasons.
the WWE championship belt is usually not for storyline reasons. Maybe Bob Backlund's win in 1994 was, along with Jericho's itle reign that never happened, but for the most part, its for service to the sport (entertainment.)
However, belts like the cruiserweight championship (handed to women (no offence), old men (no offence) etc...), who hoenstly cares who has this belt now. To me, it seems to have lsot alot of ligitamacy.
