AEW still classifies the majority of their roster as independent contractors, with no kind of insurance or benefits. That is not an exclusive WWE thing, that's a pro wrestling thing.

It's always going to come down to how many people want that chance enough that they will sign their rights away. It's why they have never been able to unionize, because there is always 20 other guys who would be happy to take their spot and make another $500,000 a year.
