This is what drives me crazy about people: who the hell says that Dante had to have been killed in that scene, anyways? Like nobody has ever survived being shot before?
Aside from that, Kevin Smith has a huge problem to overcome here: if he does it in B&W again, he'll be called pretentious, and if he does it in color, people will yell about it not being in B&W.
