With the New Japan/Anthem/WWE stuff, it’s going to be hard to prove whether it was spurred on by WWE’s muscle, Anthem wanting AXS to have a higher profile, or even Bushiroad seeing the opportunity to cultivate better exposure for themselves, and just what is “conditional” and what just happens to shake out of the tree.

I would actually think that the WWE would want to see MLW propped up a bit. Just so they can compete with AEW for all the free agents, so there isn’t some unified “Not WWE” force against them. I don’t think they particularly care who is #2, #3 or #4. The issue with AEW being such a clear #2 is that they are willing to work with everyone (at least for a time).

If something is going on with WWE, Impact and New Japan, it’ll be interesting to see where that leaves an MLW, and whether or not taking this fight to the WWE is a little bit them trying to get into bed with AEW and get something cooking with WarnerMedia since the WWE side of things is drying up.
