I wouldn't have believed it because Michael Hays is actually pretty shit at being a singer, and he actually incorporated it into his gimmick. It wasn't even simply to get Freebirds heat: he legit thought he could sing.
The growly simplicity of that song might have actually helped hide that fact. If he actually had to do something more melodic, he would need ALL the autotune. Not even in the intentionally overproduced robotic way, but in the sound quality improvement way it was originally meant to be used.
As for Jimmy Hart: that is a surprise me to just now learn, but it makes sense and Jimmy has done a lot for a long time with entrance music. Wouldn't be shocked to find out he did more background vocals like that where nobody knew it was him.
