Today, in 2022, WCW, even at its worst, would have been very welcome. What we do have is a sole rival US promotion completely run creatively by the son of a successful businessman with no prior experience in the business.

I honestly don’t think WCW sticking around would be any worse than what we have now.
I think WCW was cooked by the time it went out of business. I don’t think there was a way to recoup what it inherently cost to run. The big names were signed to AOL-Time Warner. You’d have to sink MILLIONS to get them under a new umbrella, and they weren’t exactly getting WCW out of the situation they found themselves in.

I do wish for a way better invasion angle, and I’ve got no clue how that works with WWF at the helm. You’d need Vince to be an entirely different Vince.

I agree with your greater point. We need a true alternative. WCW would be more than welcome. I still have fantasies about Vince finally appreciating the value in having that IP and being able to deliver a different flavor to fans. Hell, sell it to The Rock or something. I worry anything WWE is going to have WWE stink on it, but they’re so big I hope they grow beyond being that one thing, you know?
