More talented than most they were...but they were in the right place during the right time.
A poor singing voice, and minimal guitar skills will only get you so far for so long. Nirvana would have had to change their tune, all bands who last long periods of time cant keep releasing the same stuff over and over. Kurt didnt have anything else to offer.
Oh yeah...Pearl who?
exactly.

So what your saying here is Pearl Jam is nothing credible anymore cuz they dont sell 10 mill no more right? Cuz that is what I'm understanding. Face it, the fair weather fans liked the hits and that is all. Pearl Jam, if you've heard all their albums..shit have you heard "lost dogs"..they're tracks they kept on the shelf are better then most bands released tracks. Some people got caught up in a trend that was pushed on them by the media. The real fans of the music stuck with it. Pearl Jam still makes great songs.
Nirvana disproved most people's negative perceptions of them on "unplugged"..Cobain didn't have a voice that sounded like everyone else's..his voice was better then you say it is. Lots of feeling in his songs..it's why so many bands cover Nirvana and cant make them sound half as good. To me that is the mark of a great band, when other bands cant do anything decent to what you made. Nirvana on the other hand improved many bands songs by covering them. These are just straight facts.
And this right place, right time stuff is a cop out. Fact is, the pixies had the chance, REM, soundgarden, AIC, any punk band before them..but their music didnt attach themselves to the people in the way Nirvana's did. So give credit where it's due, they broke down the doors.
Kurt didn't have anything else to offer? Yeah suddenly he wouldnt be able to keep churning out quality music. He didnt have to have mega talent. With what he did, he did way more then most others could with these amazing technical skills.
