I was going to mention this in the Ric Flair thread. It doesn’t seem like a very WWE thing to do, but there’s a new regime. A few things are possible:
If someone sees the Ric Flair show as a potential springboard, ala All In, they could go to Tony Khan (or even WWE) and make plays for some of their talent. TK, especially, is allegedly running at a major deficit. If someone with money offered to buy out the contract of a Jay Lethal or Samoa Joe, even for cents on the dollar, that’s money TK isn’t spending and is getting.
Another possibility is that WWE get big eyes for some AEW talent that are under contract and make offers to work with AEW on that front. It looks good for a publicly traded company to play nice sometimes, and if they can get access to Daniel Bryan, Christian or whoever without needing to wait for their deals to come up, they could just work out a thing where they use them in conjunction to their AEW work.
