Are you talking about the VHS set that each box was like a monochrome metallic looking picture of a character on a black background? Like one of them was a black box with a gold darth vader? I still have those somewhere I think and now I want to find them. However as you said those aren't the original edits themselves, they are mastered versions that I think released in the 90s if I recall. It isn't much editing though, I think it was more they just cleaned up some of the early special effects like how the land speeder had an orange glow under it and they added some extra footage that didn't make the OG cut.
