I really don't like AEW anymore. We're at the point where WWE was at a few years ago, the booking has no through line to the end. Stories don't matter, most things don't matter. It's very unstable creatively and I don't have the patience to sit through them trying to figure it out.
There are a hundred threads you can go on the describe why AEW sucks now, Cody leaving, too many hires, The Elite/Punk issues, the Elite issues in general, no follow through on big hires such as Miro, Allister, Andrade and that's just three from over a year ago now. You can site the failure of Hangman in becoming a top guy for CM Punk to get a failure of a title run, the use of terrible female talent, Vince Russo style booking with no substance.
Just really unbelievable what it's all gone down to. We're at Jeff Jarrett now.
Now understand, I do really like Jeff, he's a great talent and he's such a great guy, I love him on his podcast. It's a real eye opener on the business and his impact on it. But, AEW should have been better than this. There should have been a standard.
Perhaps if Jeff was someone they were working with a few years ago it would be different. But he's just been fired from WWE, released, whatever. He's just another WWE cast off slurped up by Tony's fandom.
I am kind of torn. Jarrett was awesome in the main event with Flair this summer. He can probably do some really good stuff still in the ring, his style is one of a kind at this point so he's going to really mesh well with about anyone in AEW. But it's just like a standard that I am having trouble accepting.
If Jeff is able to fill a void that perhaps Cody left, then sure I really do get this hire. He's got the most history of anyone in the business, in the business.
Really though to be honest, I'm just over AEW right now. Wednesday I may check it out at some point but I think that Sammy Guevara is wrestling Danielson and that sounds terrible to me.
Ethan Page vs Kingston could be good and could elevate Ethan Page but I have a feeling that this journey for Page isn't going to go the way Tony wants it to.
Ethan is getting a rub because he's MJF's buddy in real life. Page and MJF are actually almost the same person/character. There is very little that is different between them as performers, except that MJF is probably just a bit better, maybe not in the ring but as a character 100%.
I think MJF probably made sure that Ethan got a rub and a push as apart of his negotiations with Tony. It does seem that they are turning MJF face, and elevating Ethan to a top heel position. I just wonder if Ethan would be able to be WORSE a heel than MJF. It could be an interesting story if they can really get Ethan to a level where fans see him as an event bigger piece of shit than MJF ever was as a heel.
