WBD let their deal with AEW run into non-exclusivity. That implies that either:

a) AEW is trying to acquire a deal outside their scope and WBD doesn’t believe they’re going to get outside offers to justify that.

b) WBD doesn’t want them at all.

The writing was on the wall with this when Tony Khan couldn’t get Ring of Honor television anywhere. If a TV network was even remotely interested in AEW, it would make sense to strike up some sort of deal with TK as a sign of good faith.
