You make it sound like the Lions are good or something. They could be a 500 team this year, but the playoffs are pretty much out of reach for them.
I heard that what is most likely now is that Ricky Williams goes into free agency after this season. That sucks, I've always loved the Dolphins and I always liked Williams. I want them to be cool/good.
IMO, Favre has never had elite teams around him. None of his recievers are bad, but guys like Donald Driver aren't Issac Bruce or Marvin Harrisons. He has always managed to win throughout his career and he is a great competitor. Not many quarterbacks will get up in the face of a d-lineman. Like RDD said, he just knows how to win. His supporting cast is always good, but I don't think they would have won a Superbowl without him. IMO if he was on the Rams for the past six years they would have won another Superbowl at least.
Tom Brady is IMO the newcoming of Brett Favre. Neither of them are the most technically efficient quarterbacks, but they are smart guys and they know what they have to do to win a game in the clutch.
I think it was Mike Scocia who said this about baseball "Everybody in baseball knows that Derek Jeter is the best player on the Yankees, Jason Varitek is the best player on Boston, and Darin Erstad for us." Its the same way for football, there is more to a game than statistics, and Brett Favre and Tom Brady are the current examples of that in the NFL. Peyton Manning is the exact opposite, he is probably the most technically accurate quarterback in the league, but he hasn't show that he can win yet. I like him and hope that he someday can win it all, but Favre and Brady are on a different level.
