He was in a horrible hunting accident. That's why he's shorter now.
He placed some birdseed out in the middle of a desert highway, then hung an anvil over it. He had rigged up a tripwire so that once the birdseed had been eaten, the anvil would fall, killing his game. However, a roadrunner came and ate all the seed, then ran off. Checking to see what was wrong with his trap, Kane stepped out into the road, and the anvil fell on him!
He spent three weeks in the hospital, folded up like an accordion, making music when he walked.
Poor bastard...
