That's not a bad system. It sounds like a more intricate version of Diablo's system, or maybe a D&D game or something. Choices are nice and I'd welcome something like that. However, I also personally like restrictions as well. I like having a role to fulfill. I've always enjoyed things like Team Fortress in quake instead of the normal game, because I liked the idea of being something specific and sticking to that. (although mindless deathmatches with every weapon and full ammo were fun as well).
Also, I plan on checking out Guild Wars, which is a game where there is no monthly fee, but it's still an MMO based game where PVP is the main drive of the game. Apparently, it's customizable with skills and stats or something. Have a few friends in the alpha.
