Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy, come to mention it.
Douglas Adams was in the process of getting the books set up to be shot as a film when he died. There was an old TV series, but the effects were pathetic. Adams felt that the late 90s brought CGI effects that would do the book justice. I thinka major studio (can't remember which one, I'll look it up) has owned the rights for a long time, but they questioned whether a sci-fi comedy film could really become a blockbuster. I think this viewpoint has changed now, and there is still talks to get the books shot.
