For the people who disliked the directing, what would you have done differently? Keep in mind this is by no means a slasher flick, or a fast paced horror movie. Unless they wanted to be more graphic with things, there wasn't much else they could do before switching scenes.

To explain the way I felt about it I'll do the simplest thing possible, relate it to sex. The scenes continued to make their way towards the exciting moment (orgasm) and would then cut you off before you got there. Now a little tease here and there can even be a good thing, but after the second time they did it I was left with a case of blue balls so bad that I didn't want to see any more of that bitch. It's not the cutting away that bothered me as much as it seemed like they were cutting away a little too early.
The past and present interchanging between f'd up scene cuts doesn't bother me, heck, Memento is like my favorite movie of all time. Anyway maybe I can't put it into better terms because I'm not a film student or anything, but it just felt like it was done wrong enough that even I was left with "blue balls"
