Although Randy Orton seems like the logical and obvious choice, it is WAY too predictable, and it is something I would save to a smaller PPV where good buyrates aren't confirmed.
Dave Batista is my pick, if I was behind WWE booking. The Leviathan has been build-up week after week as a threat, and has some good potenatial feuds with Benoit, Jericho, Kane and Maven all lined up for him. From a shock standpoint, Batista is Triple H's teammate, and it would be a mark out moment for Batista to finally stand up for himself. Emotionally you can have Ric Flair give Davo a heart warming speech about how that title isn't a "long-term relationship", it is a "one-night stand", and you need ot make the bets of every opportunity you get with it, whether or not you feel you are ready. You can have Flair tell Batista to grab at greatness while it's in front of him, as the title is something he may not be able to win tomorrow. He convinces Batista to not waste this opportunity.
We then see Batista win the title in a fairly decisive match, and we all go home happy. Batista remains paired with Ric Flair, while Trips takes some time off, and works behind the scenes. Orton defeats Cena in an interpromotional match at WrestleMania, after some kind of shady tactics.
