Shit I talked to a customer service guy at Sony way back when I had my regular PS. He asked if I ever used an unlicensed product (I have but of course I said no), and I asked what they did, he flat out said "Actually nothing, but it's a way Sony gets out of some warranties." I was quite surprised.
