I honestly don't think much would change. He'd get to go out the way he wanted. That's about it.
He'd go to WCW they'd still mess his character over and he'd still be taken out by Goldberg.
He'd probably stay away from the WWE because of Owen's death as you said. Though since he would still be on ok terms with Vince and actually get a DVD out.
