Good point, and I agree.

One problem that the WWE currently has, is that there is often a huge gap between the mid-card titles and their world titles.
Think back to 1998 however.
Remember when Austin, Foley, Kane, and Taker were dominating the main-event scene?
It didn't matter however. Guys like HHH, The Rock, Jeff Jarret, Ken Shamrock, Owen Hart, etc. made the IC division look like f'cking GOLD!
Even in 2000 - While Triple H and The Rock dominated the main-event scene, guys like Jericho, Benoit, and Angle made the IC division look like a million bucks.
That's sort of what I hope happens with the WELTERWEIGHT division idea.
Obviously - it won't quite be on par with the MAIN world title(s), but
a) There will be a large number of competitors....with star power
b) The quality of wrestling should be quite high.
One problem I see with the current CW division, is that guys like London, Chavo Guerrero, and Kidman aren't exposed to higher quality opponents. Throw Eddie, Jericho, Hardy, etc. in there, and what you'll get is a higher likelihood of fans actually caring about the Billy Kidman's and the Paul London's.
