The whole thing was a shoot.

Hogan had been using his creative control card and trying to undermine Vince Russo's plan to have Jeff Jarrett win the World Title at Bash at the Beach, clean. However, Hogan did not want to drop the title, and the two were arguing over the matter up until the very night of the match. Russo eventually told Hogan that he could win his match. Hogan, being satisfied, didn't pursue the topic any more. Russo, however, planned for Hogan to win the match, but not in the way Hogan thought.

The match starts and Jarrett lays down immediately. Hogan is confused and calls out Russo on the mic. He steps on Jarrett's chest to end this charade, and the ref counts the three. Jarrett leaves the ring with tears in his eyes.

Another match was shown, and when we came back to the ring, Russo walked out to cut his interview. It was a complete and total shoot - releasing his frustrations with the company he was trying to rebuild, but was discovering how difficult that truly was. Hogan never wrestled in WCW again.
