Sorta like that time when WWE put out a CD with alternate themes, and the associated superstars came out to them. (I can't remember them, but I think they screwed around with D-X's theme.)

Maybe this ties in with the CD that Cena's putting out, and it'll revert back to the old theme once the WWE thinks there's plenty enough publicity.
WWF Agression featured a Run-DMC version of the D-X theme, among other songs.

The difference? They actually HYPED that as they were doing it. Good marketing. What they're doing now, if as you suggested? BAD marketing.
