I seriously get chills when the end holophonor music plays in The Devil's Hands are Idle Playthings. So innocent, simple and sweet, and the crude thought animation of them getting together is almost too much. I know that sounds really pathetic but hey, it was just done really well. As you said, the show knows how to be brutal when it wants.
