Hulk Hogan was right for the character. Saying Vince could have "picked anyone" to play that role is a bit over the top IMHO, but Vince was smart enough to pick the right guy. Savage was right for the role he played, Hogan was right for the role he played.
There's no such thing as an "on his/her own" star. Terry Bollea was perfect for the role of The Hulkster, and Vince McMahon's WWE(F) was the perfect company to house that character. It came together and worked to an extent that doesn't happen very often, and both Vince and Hogan equally deserve the kind of reward Hogan was given last night.
And about Hogan stalling and letting the fans go on and on:
1) Wrestlers thrive on fan reaction. Thats what its all about.
2) He didn't ask for it, but he got it. They didn't have to chant "Thank you Hogan", "Austin/Hogan" and "One more match" just because he was stalling for it. They could have forced him to talk by shutting up. The guy was in character and having fun with it, and the fans ate it up. It was great.
