The Simpsons. Hands down. This shouldn't be a question, loopydate is right.
Yes, Family Guy is hilarious. But the simple truth of the matter is that without the Simpsons, Family Guy never would have even existed. The Simpsons opened the doorway to prime time cartoons, and although it suffered somewhat of a downturn from late season 11 to season 14 when Groening put all his effort into Futurama and Mike Scully took Executive Producing rights of the show and tried to (for whatever reason) emulate Family Guy humour by making the show more random and spontaneous - increasing Homer's stupidity, for example - it was still a right sight better than most of the shit on TV these days. Still, that's not the formula that worked for the Simpsons in the past, and it sure as hell didn't work in those years.
However, with the departure of Scully, The Simpsons has notably improved. The newer episodes of Season 15 onwards have been of season 9-10 quality which, while not the standard of The Golden Age (late season 4-season 8), is still a right sight higher quality than most of the shit on TV. The Simpsons have had a consistently excellent run, dropping the ball comparatively minimally when compared to other shows of the genre. Of course Family Guy hasn't dropped the ball yet, they haven't had the chance. As far as I'm concerned, the first 3 seasons of Family Guy don't even hold a candle to Seasons 4-8 of the Simpsons, and until such time as I see a run that lasts 4 1/2 seasons of flawless comedy (There is not a single bad episode in that Simpsons run), my vote will stay with the original and the best.
