I'm going to be the courageous one here, and go as far as to say that I think that the whole Matt/Lita/Edge story is a load of bullshit. Yeah, Lita, Jeff, and Matt may have trained together and became great friends way back in the day in North Carolina. Yeah, they may throw together a few kisses and whatnot in public. It would totally suck, but wouldn't it be somewhat entertaining if Vinnie Mac just used the sheep known as the internet side of wrestling to spread a rumor that Edge had something to do with Matt's leaving?
Review of facts:
Matt had been seen very little over the past few weeks, and had next to nothing to look forward to storyline-wise with the WWE. If I were in his position, I might have asked for permission to leave, IE an opportunity to take my skills elsewhere (possibly to rejoin brother Jeff, if you all insist...)
Lita's character is expendable. Yeah, she might have been hot-seeming in the early Hardy Boyz days, back when WWE knew how to hold a decent TLC tag match, and had a decently put together tag division, but what is she now? Quite bluntly, she is a decent enough actress (or if you prefer, botcher) to pull the job off.
And now that Lita has officially turned super-heel, she can help co-super-heel Edge in his ascent to the top.
Who does this hurt? Matt Hardy leaves the WWE, in pursuit of better things after a contractual obligation expires. Lita is officially the biggest female heel in the business, Edge officially the biggest male heel. And with Mister Constipated Speech himself, Triple H out of the way, the WWE could use another huge heel.
Just a bit of a paranoid conspiracy theory, but it all seems to be worthwhile to me
