They may have correctly prophesied that Annakin was the one to bring balance to the force. Unfortunately, part of that meant laying the smackdown on the Jedi who had become too pompous for their own good. The movie then segues to the original trilogy, where the prominent Force user is Luke Skywalker. The difference here is that Luke does do everything that the Jedi warned him not to do: he defies Yoda and saves his friends, he defies Obi Wan and ends up redeeming his father, and he never falls to the dark side. I guess when Vader cleaned house with Jedi and Sith alike, Force users were now free act like a normal person. Or maybe Lucas is just a crappy writer.

Go with the former. It's easier to swallow.
