I'd like to think it's the former, but it's probably the latter. I mean, have you ever seen how ridiculous the script for the original Star Wars was before it went into production? (example: the original title was "The Adventure of Luke Skywalker, as Taken from the Journals of the Whills: Saga One: The Star Wars." Jesus Christ)
