Thats true in a way, but look at the guys the Red Sox have that they have brought aboard with big contracts. Manny Ramirez, David Ortiz, Edgar Renteria, Johnny Damon, Keith Foulke. It is pretty much the same thing as the Yankees, all of those players came from teams who could no longer afford them.
I'm not supporting the Yankees tactics, and really their choice of players has been a bust in the past two years. I think that rivalry is great, they are the two most expensive teams in the league and probably the most well known, but I just don't like how the Red Sox make themselves out to be underdogs. What they did last year was something amazing, come back from down 0-3, an epic way to end the curse, but I just want to see them miss the playoffs more then I do the Yankees. I guess spite is probably the biggest reason.
I doubt it would happen, but the AL playoffs could potentially be the Rangers, White Sox, Twins, and Orioles. Wouldn't that be the day?
