House of Pancakes does not have that much rep yet (10+)
well, the difference between the yankees and the red sox in terms of spending money is that, really, the yankees have an essentially bottomless payroll. the red sox have a gigantic payroll, but it's limited, and the reason why many yankee-haters complain about the yankees is that if the yankees want a player, nobody can outbid them for him.

however, i think this talk of payrolls is nonsense. how much a team spends does not correlate with how much the team wins. look at the world series champions the past couple of years! florida has two of the last seven titles. anaheim [when their payroll wasn't as big as it is now] won in 2001 with small-ball. the twins and a's consistently win their divisions.

meanwhile, the dodgers, phillies, and the mets have three of the biggest payrolls in baseball, and they disappoint year after year. i'm not saying it's not unfair to a degree, but all of this yankee-bashing comes from people who's teams just don't know how to win when it counts, and that's a quality money can't buy.
