I'm quite sure Hardy's release was for real but after Vince saw all the fans chanting "We Want Matt" and "You Screwed Matt" he realized that having an on-air storyline between Hardy/Edge/Lita would be big business. So he hired Hardy back. All the "dirt sheets" have been reporting for weeks that the WWE have asked Hardy to hold off on signing any contracts. Now we know why.
