Persona 3 can be pretty jarring, the biggest two things are that you only control the MC in battle (yes that is as bad as it sounds) the story progression is stilted and takes forever to actually get going. Oh, and the entire combat side of the game is basically Mementos, storyline missions are mostly just a boss, so it's really grindy. It's still a Persona game at it's core though and some of the social links are really good, story really picks up late game. Then there's Junpei…

P4 Golden brought the fusion system up to speed with P5, so you choose which skills you want to inherit etc. and also added a bunch of other quality of life stuff. Adachi S-Link. New character with S-Link and a bonus dungeon. Extra six weeks playable of the in-game calender. You can also go outside at night to hang out with daytime Social Links (boosts affinity so you don't have to waste days with them). Extra events and voice acting for some of the text only scenes too.
