Yeah, I'm a huge godzilla mark who's seen all 30+ movies, so take my positive review with a grain of salt.

I think one of the main failings of these new Godzilla movies is the human element. There's always a large human element in Godzilla movies. But in the Toho movies they have interesting characters at least. The last two western films have such bland, cookie cutter characters I couldn't even tell you their names.

To be fair, it's a lot easier to make the human element interesting when you've got zany out there plots involving aliens, time travel, or any of the other ridiculousness that made up the Toho film plots.

But Shin Godzilla showed you can do Godzilla with a plot more grounded in reality.
