First off and most importantly he's isn't dead.
Secondly, Jake is a beloved mess of a man, a tragic figure whom most of us respect in spite of his many demons. There would be a reasonable expectation for people to find such a display insulting and disrespectful in light of his
cancer revelation.
For personal and ethical reasons I cannot justify to myself the act of posting a fake death thread for a man many of us have fond memories of and who is currently facing death. Even without my own personal history included in my judgment I would have to pass on the act which in this context would be akin to mockery of a dying man. A helpful rule for anyone interested in falsely reporting celebrity deaths would be to only post announcements that a reasonable adult would find suspect and if the subject of the announcement were to accidentally stumble upon would not be disturbed by.
Put yourself in their shoes. Would you find the false reporting of your death disturbing or absurd and possibly funny? A good example of a harmless prank would be Slik posting a youtube video announcing the death of engineer and public figure Bill Nye. Rick Rolls automatically increase the silliness percentage of any claim by 400%. This is science.
The DTTS brand has been a respected and integral part of the TPWW community for years and we here at DTTC LLC take our responsibility for and dedication to public service very seriously. We do not wish to offend simply for the sake of offending nor do we feel comfortable with falsely reporting the death of Jake Roberts under the present circumstances. Thank you for your understanding and support.
