in captain marvel, fury tells carol that he cannot eat toast that has been cut diagonally, for whatever psychological reason i guess

but in age of ultron, fury is seen eating toast that has been cut diagonally

so the theory is that - because they gave fury this very specific line that contradicts his actions later - fury, at some point, was replaced by a skrull who is now posing as him

it could just be meaningless/people overthinking it, but i also wouldn't put it past marvel because, like i said, it was a weirdly specific thing for him to mention

it'd also make an easy segue into a secret invasion-style plot line, if they're planning on doing that in the next phase
