It's essentially a spaghetti western set in 60's Hollywood and Yes, it has a very different ending than real life, which while a surprise at the time, made perfect sense as the protagonists of this movie are very much Leo and Brad, both of whom are great. I think more people will like Brad's character than Leo (though they'll like Leo's too) because Pitt's character is a total badass.
