CMLL and AEW getting the Lucha Bros are probably the only reason why the NJPW-ROH partnership remains for the foreseeable future.

AEW getting the Lucha Bros put them closer in bed with AAA. That causes potential issues for CMLL which then makes it harder for an AEW-NJPW partnership to happen.

On the flip side, the longer it takes for NJPW to partner up with AEW, the more likely AEW partners with someone else in Japan like Dragon Gate (prior to the PAC mess) or DDT.

When NJPW ditched the NWA for ROH, it was a lot easier for them since it didn't conflict with their CMLL partnership.
