A couple of Nintendo related news with the Wii U potentially getting a name change, a holiday 2012 release date, and the first ever yearly financial loss guaranteed in the company's electronic era history

According to Capcom's Yoshinori Ono, the Wii U has been improved and changed a lot since last year's E3 debut with a lot of changes being recently added. Ono stated the unrevealed features alone are enough to create a completely different experience that has no actual comparisons right now for consoles.

Quote:
“What we saw last E3 is not a reflection of everything this console is able to offer. We have been trying the development kits and some of its new characteristics will improve its possibilities. It isn’t something like Kinect or similar accessories, it’s something different.

I can’t tell you more about it because, if I do, Nintendo will send assassins to finish me! (laughs) But let’s say that Wii U will be a console with so many and unique possibilities that it will be difficult to show them in the box they are going to sell it or to be published by magazines and other mediums.”
Satoru Iwata stressed the company is working to ensure both the 3DS and Wii U keep a steady pace of content and momentum with DLC and a stronger emphasis on digital content being the start. Nintendo was also rumored to have their new online network be named the "Nintendo Network" as part of the new changes in their online structure.

The Wii U was also rumored to be getting a name change to ensure no confusion will occur with consumers after the 3DS suffered early on due to most thinking it was just an extension of the DS and not a brand new system. The console is also targeted for a late 2012 release date in time to hit the Christmas holiday season.

In terms of finances, the company will officially post their first ever yearly loss in 30 years with the main issue being the one-time currency conversion causing the majority of the loss. The loss is expected to be around $575 million in comparison to early estimates by the company being around $54 million. Nintendo also cut sales forecasts for both the 3DS and Wii by about 2 million each.
