Squenix has been clear in the past that they wanna do sub-series of their FF games just as they did with FF7 and FFX to a degree. No point creating a new universe with each game but having one dip into it. I like that people who enjoy the universe can get new stories and gameplay from it.

Kinda wish they had this model for FF8 and FF9, myself.
