I'm guessing they chose not to call it King of the Ring for a few reasons.

1. Creating a 'new' World Cup seems more special than 'we've dredged up this old tournament that only occasionally meant a great deal and we've let gather dust for years #prestigious'.

2. If it were the KOTR again, we'd get to enjoy a reminder of how super old Kurt Angle is by mentioning how he already won this competition 18 years ago.

3. Although the competitors are predominantly American, it being branded a 'World' cup does sound more global and inclusive (even if it's not), which is exactly the kind of image that Saudi Arabia are wanting to promote with these shows.

4. Going to an absolute monarchy and crowning a new 'King' is unlikely to go down well, especially when the country's actual royal family will be right there in the arena.
