2K Games wanted to do something like that around a year or two into their deal in order to rehaul the game engine but WWE refused to allow it.
Even asking for delay by a couple of months for a semi-rehaul got rejected by WWE since it would have made their quarter fiscal report be lower than usual at the time.
After that moment, 2K Games pretty much came to the same realization THQ had years before of WWE games are not worth spending huge sums of money to improve and the least amount of effort done still generates a decent amount of revenue each year.
