During a recent interview with VG247, Capcom's director Hideaki Itsuno revealed he's pretty much the reason why a new Dragon's Dogma game hasn't been made yet.

Apparently he went to the company's founder one day asking for permission to make either Dragon's Dogma 2 or Devil May Cry 5 and expected the company to make the decision for him. Instead the company was very interested in both ideas and left the decision up to him.

Itsuno felt way more interested in making a new Devil May Cry game which is why DMC 5 got made and not DD 2.

As relayed by Itsuno's translator, "[Tsujimoto] said 'Okay, do whatever you want. Do whichever one you want.' So I thought, alright, y'know what... let's do [Devil May Cry 5]. So we did that."
