Even for shirts he wore to the ring to tear off? When i first seen them i thought it was something body builders did for whatever reason. He even did it in the nwo when they were doing the poncho shirt thing with the sides cut off (which they copied from Mike Tyson).
Maybe he is a fan of louvre doors.

He was ripping his shirt off in the AWA. That was Verne Gagne's idea for him to have the ripped lines in the back of shirt like he "exploding" out of the shirt and then he would rip it off like the Incredible Hulk which was a popular tv show at the time
